Ryder’s Xchange Security Deposit & Insurance Policy
Effective Date: 13 May 2026
1. Security Deposit (Bond)
Certain vehicle bookings on Ryder’s Xchange may require a security deposit (“bond”) before the
rental begins.
The security deposit may be used to cover:
- Vehicle damage
- Insurance excess payable after an incident
- Traffic fines, tolls, or infringements
- Late return fees
- Additional usage charges
- Cleaning costs
- Missing accessories, keys, or equipment
- Breaches of the rental agreement or platform policies
The required bond amount may vary depending on vehicle type, rider age, booking duration, insurance
requirements, and host requirements.
The bond amount will be displayed in the booking details or rental agreement.
2. Bond Collection Methods
Ryder’s Xchange is currently developing a platform-based bond holding system. Until then, some hosts
may collect bonds directly using:
- Physical cash bond
- Bank transfer
- Card pre-authorisation
- Third-party payment methods agreed between host and renter
Hosts are responsible for managing and returning bonds securely. Ryder’s Xchange may assist in
disputes but does not always hold bonds directly.
3. Bond Refunds
If no issues are reported, the bond will generally be refunded after the rental ends.
Refund times depend on payment method, bank processing times, and pending inspections.
Typical refund timeframes are 3–7 business days, but may vary.
Bonds may be retained temporarily for:
- Damage claims
- Traffic infringements
- Cleaning or recovery costs
- Booking disputes
- Unpaid rental fees
4. Insurance Coverage
Vehicles may be covered by host insurance, Ryder’s Xchange protection plans, renter insurance, or
third-party providers.
Coverage varies by vehicle and booking type. Renters must verify insurance before use.
Some personal insurance may not cover peer-to-peer rentals, making renters fully liable for damages
or claims.
5. Insurance Excess
If an insurance claim occurs, the renter may pay an insurance excess depending on age, licence type,
vehicle category, and claim circumstances.
- Riders under 21 — higher excess
- Riders over 21 — lower excess
6. Damage Responsibility
Renters must return vehicles in the same condition, excluding normal wear and tear.
They may be liable for repair costs, insurance excess, loss of income, towing, and admin fees.
Failure to report damage may result in additional charges or account restrictions.
7. Personal Property
Ryder’s Xchange and vehicle hosts are not responsible for loss or damage of personal belongings.
